Swiss born Caroline Mnar studied Fashion Design and Print at Central Saint Martins and graduated in 2012. After having gained practical experience during several internships such as Diane von Furstenberg in NYC and Giambattista Valli in Paris she started working on her graduate collection which was inspired by Ryoji Ikedas artwork the transfinite, an installation that showed computer data translated into barcode patterns.
The precise laser cut out patterns found within the colection correspond with the rigid aesthetic of computer language. Simple cuts and straight shapes suggest for wearablilty and a modern, puristic look.
In Autumn 2012 she was chosen by Vauxhall Fashion Scout amongst the 10 most innovative and promising graduate students of the UK and therefore got the opportunity to show her graduate collection at the Graduate Showcase Event during London Fashion Week.
Due to the high interest in her laser cut textiles she decided to continue working with this technique and to make it her signature. In 2012 Caroline Minar also founded the accessories label CM AOX together with Product Designer AOX, which specializes in leather goods.
Caroline Minar lives and works in London, where her collection is also produced.
